When it's time for art, my students walk into the room beaming. Their steady chatter and giggles can only be matched by the whirring of their minds as they race to make their next big thing. They love to keep working and playing in art and are constantly exploring.
My students come from rich backgrounds and bring that diversity into our school.
Their own expertise helps create a worldly perspective in our art room that can compete with a nearby college campus.
My Project
Claymation, known for its technique in Wallace and Gromit and Gumby, incorporates sculpting, writing, planning, and teamwork. My students will be able to further explore process in art making. The wire is used to make armatures to give claymation figures structure. The clay is then used to create the detail and the figures. Using this type of clay means students' figures won't dry and will continue to stay movable and "alive" from week to week.
Claymation unlocks movie magic, integration with English Language Arts, and the conversation surrounding the types careers within the art world.
Students won't be able to wait to get their hands on these materials and I can't wait to see what they do with them.
