This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach earth science for 10th graders and I need to prepare them early on for college. The way to do this is to teach them information using hands on activities and labs.
For one, we lack supplies and funding to buy students hands-on materials that they need. By supplying these hand on materials the students will be able to better engage in the lesson.
I want to use clay to teach them about topographic maps. They will build it, slice it up, and trace each piece to eventually create their own map. They will also use this clay later on creating a demonstration of various plate tectonic activities. I would also like a rock kit so I can show students that various rocks are created at differenct plate boundaries.
If you are able to fund this project then you will help my students become closer to graduation. Many students don't stay in school because they are bored; but if I am able to give them hands-on and exciting lessons to engage in then they will be more likely to show up to my class, complete the work, understand it better, and graduate on time.
