Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

So many wonderful projects can be built using clay! I want to move from the flat and boring poster board projects to 3-D projects in Science and Social Studies. Activities that I would like to do with my students are building the ruins of Ancient Greece & Rome and creating 3D models of volcanoes & earthquakes. For these activities I am asking for clay, clay, and more clay! I believe that these activities will help the students who learn by doing hands-on assignments. They will benefit by increasing their confidence, self-esteem, and learn to work together socially. Students will work in pairs to create a balance between research and 3-D models. Together they will obtain the information that they will need to create the project and create a presentation to the class. I teach students at Columbia Explorers Academy in Chicago. Many of the students are on the free lunch program and are from low income houses. Approximately 48% of the students are bilingual, both Spanish and English speakers.
