Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from poor, inner-city neighborhoods. All receive free lunch and struggle to afford basic school supplies. Most are motivated to achieve so they can pull themselves out of poverty and create a better life for themselves and their families.

My students need to be empowered to lead a healthy, safe, disease-free lifestyle.

Healthy bodies and calm minds lead to peaceful hearts. Once students learn how to instill this discipline into their lives, they'll have the key to a happy future.

My Project

I am incorporating yoga into my Health/PE classes this year to help my students cope with stress and learn the benefits of mindfulness. So far, most of my students seem to enjoy the opportunity to breathe deeply and release pent-up energy.

We started with standing yoga in the classroom, but I would like to progress to full yoga routines which require a mat.

We have only ten mats so students will need to share. An additional twenty mats would allow every student to have their own mat for that class period.
