We are just beginning our 2019-2020 school year. I have a total of 40 students that have a varying range of academic abilities. I partner with another amazing teacher, so we switch classes in the middle of the day. My students receive Reading and ELA instruction from me.
ALL of my students are AMAZING third graders who are eager to learn.
My two classes are comprised of a total of thirty-nine students. Twenty in my first class and nineteen in my second class. I have four students who are served through special education services, one of them being Autistic. The remaining sixteen students range in academic abilities with many who struggle daily with reading and writing skills and several having an ADHD diagnosis.
Our school is a Title I funded school with a high percentage of free and reduced lunch students. Our small community is a rural community with many broken families that live in poverty. They need us, and we are proud to wrap our arms around these families, love them through their difficulties, and provide the best education possible for their babies.
My Project
The materials that I am requesting funding for will help take the wiggle out of Wiggle Land. Well, maybe not quite, but they will surely help to focus my students and help to keep their wiggles contained.
There are many children that come into the classroom that struggle to stay focused and get their work completed.
The flower shaped tables will give the students a defined space to call their own. The design of the table has a petal-like shape that sets natural boundaries for each person sitting at the table this will help in keeping them from impeding on each other's space. These tables also provide seating for six students instead of the typical four that a round table normally provides. This will help save space in the classroom and give more room for our reading area and flexible seating setup.
Because many students struggle with the fidgets, I have requested a set of chair bands and wiggle seats. Both were created with the intent of giving the wiggly child an outlet to expel energy with their bodies under the table. This will take away unnecessary distractions, such as the students turning around in their seats, standing at the tables, leaving their seats, and being noisy. They will also aide in keeping the students focused and working.
