My Students
I serve a population of students from the Back of the Yards neighborhoods of Chicago. These neighborhoods are some of the most crime-riddled areas of Chicago. These areas are plagued with high crime, unemployment, poverty, and heartache. For many of our student's our school is an oasis and the education they receive is a lifeboat.
Unfortunately, our school can't count on the families of our students for addition materials during this troubled time of budget cuts and financial unrest in Illinois, 99% of our students receive free lunch, in addition, 21% of our students are classified as homeless.
Our students are eager to excel and strive for a better future even though most don't know how to achieve success. We as a proud staff do all was to facilitate their matriculation through our school to become successful additions to society
My Project
My students need a Laptop with an external hard drive, DVD player, HDMI cable and a Bluetooth FM Transmitter. This project is to help share and retrieve information faster within the classroom. The items that were selected have ease of functionality, as well as can be used with multiple platforms. Too often the functionality of technology is a roadblock between students and other platforms regarding their education. Hopefully with these up grades students will be able to do things like go on virtual field-trips. Our school is in Illinois and for some time now we have been going through budget troubles. The materials from this donation will allow students' education to not be confined to the four walls of my class!
