My Project
Working with students in the special education classroom, they need a variety of tools to find success in the classroom. Through teacher modeling, color coding materials, and a multitude of examples to follow, they will be better able to independently do their work and help each other in the classroom. By providing them with laminated sheets to practice skills on, they are better able to practice and find success in subjects such as math.
Students with disabilities often have high levels of anxiety, so having access to different fidgets, such as knee doh balls and squishies, can help alleviate some of the anxiety they face on a daily basis.
They also need to have access to teacher-created materials and materials that they can manipulate using dry-erase markers and/or colored pens to help them practice new skills. Students with disabilities do better with teacher-provided models and samples to follow along with while learning new skills. By having large examples of graphs and/or ELA skills like the Plot stages on a poster, they will be able to independently practice on their own by following along with the teacher's model/poster around the room.
In the classroom, we like to showcase different books each month for independent reading, so having them showcased daily right on the board will help the students stay excited about them and hopefully start to get through more than one book.
