Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
First graders have a range of skills in math and reading. Some come in proficient with numbers and ready to read chapter books. Others are still learning to match a written number to a specific quantity and also need beginning level engaging texts that they can read every day to build their confidence. Our district curriculum focuses on the middle of the road and often doesn't address the needs of students who are struggling or those who need a challenge.
In my classroom I prepare materials to meet the wide range of needs of all students.
I print out alphabets charts and number lines that students can keep in folders in their desks. I create daily practice for reading and differentiated practice for math. On Teachers Pay Teachers, I have been able to find leveled reading passages and daily math practice pages created by other educators (along with games for phonics practice and activities for classroom milestones like the 100th day of school) that I would love to use this year with my first graders.
A color printer will help me produce these learning materials for everyone and a laminator will help them last forever! Technology also supports us when we learn outside and a high-quality microphone will help me save my voice and keep everyone safe and working together. Extension cords will help me connect it all to our outlets and blue tape will keep those cords out of the way.
