My Project
I teach 5th grade science in an urban school setting. When teachers get stressed for time, science is one of the first things they tend to push to the side. I am my students' first every day science class in their career and often have to build up the science knowledge from a lower level than you would expect.
Each section I teach has several students who for various reasons struggle to focus.
We do a lot of hands on, whenever possible, but I am also teaching them how to sit and listen to a lecture, read and take notes from a text, and complete forms of research. These things can be hard enough to learn how to do, without the added focus problems.
By receiving the requested wiggle stools and bubble seats, I will have enough alternative seats for each of my highest need students. The chair bands will help my medium need students also have supports availible to them. Improving their focus will help them get more out of their time in my room. Having an updated class set of headphones will help my students with read-aloud accomidations better access their written research and texts.
