Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The majority of my students come from economically disadvantaged homes and in which most are also broken families. These students sometimes come to school with a plethora of invisible burdens that people usually cannot see, yet, they still have so much love to give.
These kids get ecstatic over the smallest things like getting a couple pieces of skittles, a few extra recess minutes, or even getting to color with broken crayons.
It humbles me to see that they are grateful for what they have, but it breaks my heart that they don't get better things than that, when they deserve so much more.
I love when they ask for hugs or to sit with me at lunch because it helps me more than they realize. As an educator, it makes me feel appreciated and
My Project
I have recently gotten funded by USBE for items to use towards a classroom project, but I have created a separate project because I realized and noticed, some kids may not even be motivated to want to participate in the project, because they are still showing signs of discomfort being in school. Some kids come to school and lack proper nutrition or just eating in general, and I want to provide them with snacks they can occasionally have in the case that they are suddenly feeling hungry which to a person, especially a child, it can hinder focus.
Some students lack confidence or motivation in pursuing their education, but incentives can increase that motivation.
I wanted to provide incentives for them to reward good behavior and progress. As for confidence, it can help them feel more confident when they see the results and consequences of them making good decisions in school. These students are from economically disadvantaged homes, in which most are broken families. These kids sometimes cant afford to get or receive toys and enjoyable items. I feel that children also deserve to be rewarded for their hard work and effort that they put into school. School can be a lot of work in their eyes, in which it is, but that work is rewarding and worthwhile; the students deserve prizes to reward their efforts. School is a chance for them to learn and can show hard
Lastly, with the spike of COVID-19, I want to provide my students with neutral color masks that they can wear -- many students come to school without one due to the parents not being able to afford masks, the school provides some, but having more would be helpful. Students frequently need new masks due to getting it dirty or losing them.
