This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 7th graders are wonderful! They are fun, courageous, compassionate, considerate, silly, driven, artistic, impressive, daring, exciting, strong, but most of all, they are adaptable. They have shown extraordinary perseverance throughout the many challenges of COVID-19. My students have been through online learning and socially distanced face-to-face learning. They have been separated from their friends. They have had highly anticipated activities shut down like dances, school clubs, sports opportunities, etc. They have adapted. They have overcome many curveballs thrown their way, and they are stronger for it.

They inspire me to be a better teacher.

I know that if they can overcome everything they have been through at such a young age; the least I can do is strive to be a better teacher.

My Project

The bulk of my purchase went to compartment organizers. These organizers will be used to store students' materials. Students have to remember to bring many different supplies to all their different classes, having these organizers will keep things in one place, eliminating the possibility of students forgetting essential items for the day. Also, I will be able to store classwork in their organizers to reference back to from time to time to allow students to reflect on their progress.

The calculators are essential to our classroom.

I don't have a full set of calculators. If I could have one calculator for each student, I could ensure each student has the tools needed to succeed. This will allow students to use the same calculator every day, reducing the number of germs spread, which is important to everyone during COVID-19. This would also eliminate the need for students to buy their own calculators, which sometimes get lost. The pouch hanger would allow all calculators to stay in one place when not in use.

I also added candy to my list. I like to use candy as a reward/incentive in my classroom. I wish I could do it more often but it gets expensive getting candy for 140 students.
