This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Over the past six years, I have had the pleasure of being an English teacher in Chicago. This year I will be teaching English 3 and Dual Credit Child Development. My English 3 course will be co-taught, meaning I will have general education students, special education students, and English language learners in the same classes.
My students are energetic, passionate, and creative!
Every day, they impress me with the skills they are acquiring in the classroom.
Junior year is a difficult year for many students. They are in high level classes and take the SAT. My students rely on the SAT exam to have college access. The higher their score, the more money they will receive towards their college education. A lot of my students are first-generation college students! They need the proper resources to help them prepare for the exam.
My Project
We need a printer, toner and paper! I am so thankful that we are finally a 1:1 school, but paper learning is still important for my students. Research shows that every student learns differently. Not all students will enjoy being on a computer for the entire school day. Therefore, I would still like to offer some paper copies for my students to have.
Going back and forth between tabs can be overwhelming to some students, such as, special education students or English language learners.
Plus, some students are kinesthetic learners, and would prefer to highlight on paper over the Chromebook.
I would like to integrate technology with paper in my class. For example, we will read an article online and on the piece of paper students will take notes or complete an activity. With your help, you will be able to fund the materials necessary for my students.
