Over the summer, students have a summer learning loss/ summer setback. Meaning, they will begin the fall school year at achievement levels lower than the previous school year. Many of my students are working, babysitting family members, and spending time indoors playing video games or watching movies. They are not always focused on summer reading or practicing math facts. I want to promote life long learners and readers! The goal of my project is to provide every student with a book that they can read over the summer. Each book will be personally selected, and inside will have an hand written message providing the importance of being a life long reader. Some of my students do no have age appropriate books at their house, books that they enjoy, or books :( Students that are not regularly reading may need a "buy in" and an example! I will provide them with popular youth adolescent books that they can discuss with their friends and possibly trade with each other over the summer. I promote myself as a reader. My goal for 2018 is to read 50 books, and I created an instagram that my students follow that tracks my progress.
