My Students

First graders are like sponges and absorb everything you teach them. I love how energetic they are when you present new activities to them. Their eyes light up and their smile gets bigger and bigger, and you know you've made a connection.

Our school is located in the heart of rural Appalachia in South Eastern Kentucky.

Many students are in the backpack food program, and 100% of our students receive free lunch. Being from a low socioeconomic background and area doesn't stop them from learning, it just takes place a little differently. Working in small groups allows students to work on tasks on their own individual level and be successful. I have future teachers, nurses, doctors, and leaders in my classroom, and I want to show them they can do anything!

My Project

We are not in the classroom full time yet, but we can work with a small group that is socially distanced on targeted instruction. These resources will help so much.

The dry erase markers will be used when I teach online and students will be using them as they come in for targeted instruction.

I will use the dry erase board for both groups as well. The lined side is great for first grade to show them the correct way to write letters.

The stapler, staples, and pens will help to replace/replenish my supplies since grading packets for those students who aren't virtual, uses a lot and the candy will be used for rewards for the students that have chosen to come in for targeted instruction.
