My Students

Students in our school are below grade level for reading. While we would qualify for Title I by state requirements, our district has too many schools with higher needs than ours, so we do not receive the additional funding. Our students want to become better readers, but we need ways to support their literacy growth.

The students in our school are half military.

The constant moving means that there will be gaps in their education that I will be trying to fill and there will be advanced students that need something extra. The rest of the students are from low socioeconomic status and face a variety of challenges of their own.

My Project

I have been teaching for over ten years and some of my basic classroom items are no longer functioning. I own three staplers, including the one my mom gave me my first day of teaching, and all of them are broken. The tape dispenser no longer holds the tape on the roll and the sharpener works on occasion.

Not having supplies that work makes daily life in the classroom more difficult.

We are constantly having to borrow other teachers' staplers and supplies to use in our classroom. These items have been in my classroom for over ten years and they need to be replaced. I am on my 5th pencil sharpener and would like two that will last longer than previous sharpeners.
