Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over ninety-five percent of our students receiving free lunch. Our school, like many others in Springfield, is culturally diverse, with students speaking a multitude of languages including English, Spanish, and Somali.
As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are also diverse in their academics.
Students in my classroom all receive Special Education Services, with many of them preforming a grade or more below grade level. While these students struggle both economically and academically, they still come to school eager to learn and better themselves each and every day.
My Project
While it may still be summer, busy teacher like myself are already planning for the upcoming school year! My students need basic classroom supplies to start the school year off with a bang! The majority of my special education students come from households that are struggling financially. It is my goal to provide students with the basic supplies like pencils, crayons and markers, scissors and glue so that families do not need to worry about supplying them for their students.
In my opinion, no students or families should ever have to worry about not having basic supplies to use in the classroom.
I plan on using the hole punches for punch cards for positive behavior interventions in my classroom. Students will receive a punch on their card when they are meeting the expected behaviors. Pocket organizers and mailboxes will help keep our classroom organized and tidy!
