Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a first teacher, in a high need elementary school in East Harlem; I want to help my students become super readers and active learners. My students are eager and excited about learning.
My school is located in a high poverty area and many of our students live in the housing projects.
We always have high attendance and the students are excited to learn and explore reading and writing. The students at our school may not have the same opportunities as many NY students; but there is a team of hard working teachers bridging that gap. I want the students to have a quality education and the requested these books would help our students achieve their best reading skills and develop as super readers and writers.
My Project
My students learn best through hands-on learning. These materials would allow them to use their hands and build their phonics and reading skills. My students love center time. It is one of their favorite activities of the day. During center time my students have the opportunity to work in small groups on a variety of learning activities. Some of their favorites include word building center, read, write sight word center, reading center, spelling center, and roll-a-dice and write a sentence. The students will use the magnetic letters to build words, write sentences, and to recognize letters. They also will use the dry erase magnetic board for the spelling centers to practice the spelling words of the week and to write sentences when they roll the dice. In addition, they will use the dry erase markers to write their words and sentences. They will use the bins to store their centers supplies. They will use the differentiated dice to create a new sight word center.
My students will be able to use hands-on-learning by using these supplies.
They will be able to enhance their word work and phonics skills. I am sure that by having these materials in my classroom, my students will be able to build the skills they need to become better readers and writers by the end of the school year. I believe that with your donations my students will have the opportunity to enhance their phonics and reading skills.
