Everyday my classroom uses consumable materials such as pencils, notebooks, glue, markers, etc. For this upcoming school year I would like my students to have all the materials they need, without myself or their parents needing to spend a dime.
My students come from all walks of life.
Most of them are from hardworking immigrant families, and many of them are first generation Americans. Many are bilingual or trilingual. Many still struggle with the nuances of spoken and written English. Ninety percent of my students qualify for a free or reduced lunch. All of my students receive free breakfast.
The community surrounding our school is a low socioeconomic area. Life for my students is not easy, and many do not enjoy going to school or learning. Many of my students live in small, cramped apartments with too many people.
However, my students love to read, write, create projects, problem solve, and LEARN!
My Project
The materials I am requesting will help me set up my second year of teaching third grade. I want to take the pressure off the parents of my students. Every year they feel like they need to spend money on supplies, and I know most of my parents really cannot afford it. Also, since my school site has a very small budget, teachers are in charge of providing most supplies.
These materials are used on a daily basis, and are the things that run out of all the time. We need headphones for the listening center that I use for daily reading groups. I like to have tissue in the room, because we only have really scratchy paper towels that NO ONE wants anywhere near their nose! The notebooks and compositiong books are used for reading journals, writing journals, and math practice.
These materials will allow students to feel prepared and ready for each day; and help them to reach their potential.
Students and parents will not feel pressured to spend their own money on materials.
