Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are diverse learners that all come from low-income families. The students I work with are of Hispanic and African-American descent and come eager to learn and master new skills every day. The students I provide services for come from diverse backgrounds with various academic and social-emotional needs. I have had the opportunity to work with these students for many years and have seen how much they have grown academically and socially.

My goal has always been to create a classroom where students feel important, encouraged, cared for, and excited about learning!

My Project

Many of my students struggle to afford basic classroom supplies to be used in the school setting. My students have trouble with keeping supplies where they need to be when transitioning to and from their different classrooms. These materials will be used in my special education classroom for whole group instruction, small group instruction and individual practice. I utilize a variety of materials and activities to keep students engaged and excited about learning new skills. My students use a variety of materials to complete their daily assignments. The students would use the pencils, crayons, markers, dry erase markers, scissors and glue for individual practice of skills and to complete various projects and assessments to show their knowledge and understanding of various topics in language arts, math, science and social studies. Due to my students working below grade level I make copies to differentiate my instruction so that all students can work on the same skill but at their current academic level. Each week, students take home their weekly graded assignments so that parents can see their progress and continue practicing the skills we are covering at home. The mailboxes will help ensure that students can show their parents all the wonderful work they are doing in the classroom and their progress towards their individual academic goals. These classroom supplies would be such an asset to my daily instruction.
