As a NYC Teaching Fellow, my workload this summer was tremendous, leading right into the beginning of my first school year. The Teaching Fellows program requires a two year commitment, and for me it also meant relocating to NY. After I received my placement, I returned home to New Orleans to see my family and friends, and begin the process of relocating my family to NYC. Unfortunately, while I was in New Orleans, Hurricane Katrina mandated our unexpected evacuation to Texas. When I was able to return to NYC and get my own children placed in NY's school system, I was well behind schedule in getting my own classroom prepared for my new students. Therefore my request is for some basic items to get our classroom supplied with Life Science materials, Math, English, and Humanities supplies. These resources will transform my ordinary classroom into a inviting, stimulating class environment. For example, your micropscope donation assistance will enable our class to observe cell slides and make learning the curriculum for Life Science more stimulating and immediate. The composition journals will serve as Math and English journals. I will use the chart paper as I introduce a lesson, and to post the completed lessons as a reference for student review. In Math, some students require additional assistance, so multiplications flash cards will be beneficial in giving them a more solid foundation in Mathematical concepts. An overhead projector will provide the flexibility to make lessons more creative and accessible. And lastly,as part of the Humanities curriculum, our students would benefit greatly from a class Atlas. School has started and it has been difficult to catch up. I am grateful that my class instruction has not been compromised, yet some assistance to purchase materials would be a great benefit. Any assistance you give us is appreciated in advance.
