This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I remember 1st grade like it was yesterday. Coming into a brightly lit, print rich room with lots of neat gadgets that I couldn't wait to get my little hands on. Amazed at all the cool supplies that my teacher had in the classroom. I want our students to experience the same "WOW" that I felt.
My students attend a Title I school in New York, which means that 98% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Our school also offers a healthy snack. Being that our school is located in a high poverty area, our students don't have the means to buy everyday school supplies but they love to learn and have fun doing it. I am a special educator in an ICT classroom (Integrated Co-Teaching). In an ICT classroom, there are two teachers and the students consist of general education and special needs students. I am the special educator in the class aforementioned but I support the needs of ALL of our students.
My Project
Having an adequate amount of classroom supplies is essential. We need the pocket charts and sentence strips in the class to make our sentence writing more interactive. First graders love learning using their hands. We would also use the pocket charts for our station work as well. In an ICT class, station work (small groups comprised of no more than 8 students) is extremely beneficial. We also need a place to house our leveled books, thus the need for the classroom bins. Working with 1st graders, the need for scissors and glue sticks are very high so we are asking for supply caddies to keep our supplies within arms reach. Having these resources in our classroom would make learning engaging and interactive. Our students would benefit from these resources tremendously.
Your support would impact our class greatly.
These supplies provide our students with what they need to be engaged in learning and to also have fun doing it. School can be pretty dull if you don't have all the resources you need to keep students focused but with your help, we can provide our students with what they need to have a successful year.
