My Students

First grade is such an important year, as students are expected to enter this grade being able to read at a Level C and exit the grade on Level J. Out of every grade, this is the greatest leap in reading level that is expected. It's amazing seeing my students come in on the first day only knowing a few words and then being able to read grade-level books independently by the end of the year. Besides academics, my students also learn important lessons and social skills, such as how to be a good friend, appropriately expressing their emotions, taking pride in their work, having the courage to be different, etc. I love watching how much my students grow academically and socially.

My students are motivated and eager to learn, despite challenges they face.

Our school receives Title 1 funding and the majority of students enrolled in the school come from economically disadvantaged families. I want to be sure I'm doing everything I can to give my students the education they deserve and promote a love of learning.

My Project

Most of my students often come to school without basic supplies, such as pencils, crayons, glue, tape, erasers, expo markers, etc. Because my students are so young, these supplies get lost/damaged easily, so I am asking to buy a large amount of these supplies that will last for the entire school year. I am also asking for materials my students can use during their center time. Center time is when students work in independent groups to practice skills we have been learning in reading and math. While students are in their centers, I pull a small group of students and work with them closely on their specific needs. I am asking for a cart of drawers that I can use to organize my center materials so students can independently get their materials. I have limited furniture in the classroom, so this cart will help keep materials organized and allow students to access them quickly, which will save time and allow students to get more time practicing important literacy and math skills!

These are supplies that my students will greatly appreciate and will help lead to their success.
