My Students

This year I am teaching all subjects in a self-contained cluster classroom to students in kindergarten, first and second grade. My students have various disabilities including, learning disabilities, autism spectrum disability, Down syndrome, cognitive disabilities, social-emotional disabilities, speech impairments, etc.

I love that they are all so different, learn in different ways, have different strengths and weaknesses, and want to learn and explore.

I love when they are proud of their accomplishments and want to share their work. I love when they finally understand a lesson, and then want to help a student that is still struggling. I love when they literally jump for joy because they didn't something right.

My Project

Every activity that I make for my students needs to be printed with color ink, on cardstock, laminated, with velcro dots, strips, or magnetic tape. These school supplies will help me create the learning resources that my students need and use on a daily basis. Velcro and magnetic tape help to make activities interactive, and engage the students, which increases their ability to learn. Laminating the materials allows them to be more durable, and students are able to use them over and over again. It also allows me to wash and sanitize the materials if a student puts it in their mouth.

Students love being able to place the pieces, and it helps them to learn to work independently.

Teaching students how to be more independent, through structured work systems, schedules and routines, helps students to be more successful in life.

Some of my students struggle with noise, and noise reducing headphones would allow them to participate in more classroom activities.
