Classroom Structure and Routine: A Place to Call Their Own!
My students need a cubby locker system that is all their own to put their belongings independently so that they can begin their transition routine of being ready to learn.
My students have exceptional needs, they all receive special education services and supports for their autism. My incredible students work hard every day to learn academics as well as how to navigate through the complexities of social interactions. Many of my students are non-verbal and use communication devices to interact with others. Communication is only one of many areas of need for my students; they require intense supports for sensory and processing information.
My students are social, loving, fun, and energetic.
Many of them do struggle with behaviors as their home life is often unpredictable or unstable. They deserve their best chance to help them learn and grow along side their typically developing peers. Many of my students thrive in a serene, distraction-free environment as this allows them to focus directly on the task or skill presented to them. I believe they would benefit from a stable and consistent, nurturing environment.
My Project
A cubby locker system will help my students with the routines of entering and exiting the classroom. Students will have a place to put their belongings that will have their name on it. This will help them learn their name, personal space and boundaries, as well as provide them with a task to complete upon entering the classroom.
Routines, structure and boundaries support students' learning in academics as well as social-emotional development.
This cubby locker system will allow students to have a safe space for their personal belongings, so they can focus on their learning. It will keep our room clean and organized as well as allow for better communication with parents, as we will have a space to keep student's work and any information that may need to go home on a daily basis.
