Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school serves students, and families, from a low income and high poverty area. This means that my students are often dealing with several challenges within the classroom and, often, at home. To build a stronger community our school uses project-based learning, and social emotional learning. Through these methods my students are learning how to build essential character traits while using their critical thinking skills.

One of the best sounds in the world is hearing a student exclaim, “Look!

I did it! I did it all by myself!” What makes it even better is when it comes from a student who has struggled through a concept for weeks on end. In my classroom this is an all too familiar reality.

Teaching 3rd grade means high energy, plenty of growth, and a lot of love. In this grade students make a significant amount of growth, both intellectually, and emotionally. Many students will start the year struggling to read at grade level due to decreased learning time during COVID, but will leave devouring books and adding up a storm. It is amazing to watch them make this progress, and grow into amazing community members.

My Project

Teachers are constantly trying to find ways of motivating students. Today I have filled my cart with various rewards to stock my student store with. Throughout each month my students earn tickets for various tasks and when they exhibit fantastic social emotional skills. They then can use these tickets to buy various fun and academic items from my store, which has them practice their multiplication skills!

I'm also looking for more creative activities for students to do during recess!

Due to COVID students at our school have specific recess zones they stay in each week and some of these zones are more exciting than others. I'm trying to spice up their recess time with alternative activities, which can be done with your help!
