This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
This year I have a total of 13 students. Each of my students bring a different uniqueness to our classroom family. Our school is a Title 1 school were all students receive free breakfast and lunch. My students come face many challenges everyday, both in school and outside of school due to limited resources, lack of support, or their environment. Even though they face such adversity, they are the most loving, caring, full of life human beings you will ever meet. They have such a love for life and for others and they are so eager to learn. They remind me why I chose this profession and they allow me to see the bigger picture. With all the challenges they face, I believe that they should be afforded the opportunity to have access to quality educational resources to aid in the hunger for learning.
My students desperately need these classroom essentials. The Literacy carpet, sensory table and class library will be items that will be used daily in our classroom!
The Literacy Carpet would give students both a welcoming and inviting space for our whole group meetings and space to collaborate with their peers.
The sensory table will create opportunities for students to learn through their sense of touch. The class library will provide books that most students have never seen, books that will spark their imagination and encourage thinking outside of the box! Each item will facilitate 21st century learning for 21st century students.
