Help me give my students the opportunity to learn to play the Ukulele! Our students love music and the Uke is the perfect gateway instrument for a lifelong enjoyment of song!
Music is a way to socially connect, process difficult emotions, and build skills such as problem-solving and grit, which makes our young more able to navigate situations in the future.
We have an incredibly arts-supportive school, and we want to offer our students every opportunity to find joy, overcome emotional difficulties and celebrate each other, which is exactly what music does for them!
Over the three years I’ve been teaching at our rural, extremely low-income school, it’s been my privilege to introduce students to basic piano playing skills. Last summer our incredible administration made some space in our very tight budget to finally getting a set of piano keyboards for the students to use this year, and they LOVED learning them. Now our students are now BEGGING for some ukulele lessons as well. Having a classroom set of Uke’s would CHANGE so many student’s musical experiences-giving them basic skills that they can transfer to guitar, mandolins, and other instruments. Working together to learn songs, write their own music, solving the puzzles (chords ARE a puzzle for soo many students), learn music theory and find meaningful uses for music outside the traditional classroom curriculum is the goal of our programming.
Help us help them grow, learn, and use music to make the world a little more melodious.
