This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In my first year of teaching music in Oakland, California I have been using xylophones, voice, and rhythm sticks for grades TK-5th grade.
While this has been a great introduction to music for many of these students, they really want to learn piano collectively between all grades.
I use a keyboard to go over musical terms, and techniques and help guide students in chorus. By having a class set of 12, two students per keyboard, I feel we could improve musicality collaboratively and give students the instruments they really want.
