I have a few students that have a hard time focusing during math and reading whole group lesson, while sitting in their desk. Having the students sit on a rug (which I have never had), at the front of the class will bring the students closer to me while I teach, while having a special spot for each student. This will also give the students an opportunity to turn and talk and be more engaged with the lessons. In addition, this will give the students a change in seating, from sitting at their desk most of the day.
