My Project

I have a classroom full of 20 wide-eyed and eager learners. We are a small urban and rural low-income community school. Most of them come from homes with overworked parents and caregivers, where there is little time for students to get assistance at home the way they get in the classroom. My students do not have exposure to certain experiences and lack certain resources that children need to grow and learn.

My goal is to provide my students with as many life experiences as possible to fill in the gaps.

My students have a wide variety of dreams and aspirations. I want to give them as many tools as I can so that they can have a successful future. This project is promoting their learning for today and reinforcing their ambitions for tomorrow. I tell my students that every day is an important day, we are a classroom family, their words have power, and there is nowhere else I would rather spend my days.

I am a first-year teacher teaching 2nd grade and want to build my classroom environment to be calm, welcoming, and a positive experience for all learners. This carpet will provide us with a safe space, where we will do a majority of learning, have morning meetings, and grow together as a classroom community. The second-grade year is where the strong foundation is built upon to help set students up for success for now and in the future.
