My Students
My 4th graders are very diverse in many respects - cultural backgrounds, learning styles, motivation levels, interests & goals- but we all share the same values. We believe that respect and kindness are the building blocks of a successful classroom environment and we work together to maintain these core values. My students love sharing their experiences with each other, and with little practice, they take it upon themselves to make sure that everybody is heard and respected. During our morning meetings, share time is always a hit!
My Project
A classroom rug is a busy area! Students gather on the rug for morning meetings, closing circles, accountable talk, teacher-led lessons, book read-aloud, independent group work and more.
The rug in our classroom is a special place.
It is where we start and end our days. We sit in a circle and discuss a variety of different topics and issues. In the mornings, we greet each other and talk about our schedule, our values, and goals. At the end of the day, our rug is a place where we reflect on our learning and say our goodbyes. Our classroom rug is a spot where many important things happen, but it is also a place for children to stretch and lounge:).
