Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We will create a Classroom Recycle Center to support the students’ creativity and foster their emerging sense of environmental responsibility. The implementation of this center would extend the learning from the science and social studies kindergarten standards related to reducing the impact of humans in the local environment (K-ESS3-3) and students taking action to address global problems (SS.K.16). It will be complete with labeled bins and shelving for collecting reusable items for use in math or reading centers or for collecting recyclables to be sent to a processing center.
Students will be able to collect containers, plastic bottles, styrofoam cartons, cardboard tubes, scrap paper, etc to be used for counting, sorting, creating and/or storing math or reading manipulatives, supplies and games.
The storage solutions for recyclables in this designated area will increase the classroom capacity for neatly, compactly, safely and hygienically organizing the materials that are gathered until they are ready to be used or delivered to an appropriate destination.
