My Students
At the front of my classroom is the quote, "Exceed Expectations!" I always encourage my students to go beyond what is expected of them and strive to always work harder, practice more, be better, and to go beyond what teachers, parents, coaches, and friends expect out of them. My class is a diverse group of curious, active, and determined students.
I strive to create a happy and comfortable classroom where children can enjoy learning and each other.
My students aspire to do their best in school and they are very interested in technology. I enjoy placing technology in their hands so they can use it in many ways on a daily basis. Our school qualifies as a moderate poverty school.
My Project
My students enjoy reading independently, in small groups, and as a whole class. Each practice has a place in the classroom. There are several books that I have my students read in small groups that would best be utilized as a whole class reading selection.
This selection of classroom books will complete my classroom collection for each title, so that each student can have a copy of a book to read as we can delve into each book as a classroom community.
"Blood on the River" is used during a social studies unit on the Jamestown colony. The class should all be reading the book at the same time during this unit. "In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson" is a book that we read together when we have a Chinese university student visit the classroom each year for a couple of weeks. The other books also have lessons that lend themselves to whole class discussions and can be differentiated for different reading levels as we read them together.
There are times when it is rewarding to read a book together with the whole class, rather than each small group reading different books. This project, once completed, will give me the opportunity to do that with my class.
