Classroom Plants

My students need soil, seeds, planting quads, wicks, and fertilizer to plant Wisconsin Fast Plants. They also need anti-algal squares to prevent the watering system from growing algae.

My Students

My students face challenges outside of our school building that I can barely even begin to imagine. My classroom is their refuge. It is the one place they feel safe enough to explore their interest and not fear failing. In my class, I actually encourage failure. Scientist use failure to learn from their mistakes. I teach my students to take the same approach to their learning. I encourage them to try their best, then learn from their results.

Our middle school is a PBL (Project Based Learning) school.

So my students get emerged in a real-life project that covers all subject areas each semester. During the PBL, they will learn skills for collaboration as well as content based knowledge. This pushes my students out of their comfort zone and encourages them to think out of the box. As a teacher, I focus on teaching students to process through situations. That is the real life skill that is going to carry them through their education.

My Project

In 6th grade science we learn about plants. Students spend time discovering the life cycle of plants from a germination to pollination.

The best way to learn is hands on with real live plants in the classroom.

Wisconsin Fast Plants are genetically designed to grow in limited time frames. The planting quads allow for four plants to be planted together. This way students can work collaboratively in groups. The soil, seeds, and fertilizer are essential to the growing process.

These supplies will allow my students to experience and participate in the life cycle of a plant. They will actively plant the seed and monitor the growth. They can even cross pollinate the flowers after blooming. Real life experiences like these are priceless to any classroom.
