Help give our classroom guinea pig, Bob, a new home. Bob has become an essential part of our classroom environment. My high school students go out of their way to bring him treats, to socialize with him, clean his cage, and give him baths. His current home has served its purpose, but its time for Bob to get a home makeover (and the students agree).
Our classroom guinea pig teaches my students empathy, while providing them with emotional support.
He teaches them what routines look like, accountability, and how to care for others. Some of my students who are going through a tough time, really get a lot out of spending quality time with Bob. Our guinea pig provides students with an opportunity to care for something and see an animal experience the benefits of that.
Students aren't the only ones who love Bob -- he has trained another science teacher to bring him apples each morning, and has even gotten the custodial staff to bring him treats!
