Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The Kindness Closet is a student-led community service initiative designed to support the well-being of our entire school community. Stocked with essential personal care items such as deodorant, sanitary pads, and lens wipes, the closet will be available to anyone in the school who may need them, including students and staff. These resources will be offered discreetly and without judgment, promoting equity, dignity, and comfort throughout the building.

This project empowers my students to take the lead in serving others through kindness.

By organizing and maintaining the Kindness Closet, they will actively participate in a community service effort that fosters compassion and inclusion within our school. They will also work to raise awareness about the closet and its purpose, helping reduce stigma and ensuring that their peers know they can access support without fear or embarrassment.

To make the initiative truly accessible, my students will serve as Kindness Closet advocates, trusted, approachable points of contact for anyone who may need assistance. Their involvement ensures that accessing personal care items feels normal and respectful, not like asking for a favor or special permission.

Through this project, my students are not just helping classmates, they are cultivating a culture of care and taking responsibility for the well-being of our broader school community. With the necessary resources in place, they will lead a meaningful community service initiative that demonstrates the power of kindness, advocacy, and student leadership.
