Classroom Organization

My students need to learn why organization is important in their daily lives. Providing 33 chair back pockets will help organize supplies needed daily.

My Students

Don't agonize. Organize.--Florence Kennedy It's agonizing to watch the clock tick away as students try to find a pencil in the sheer chaos that is a student desk. That is why I am asking for chair back organizers for each of my students.

I am delighted to admit that I teach 6th grade.

Each year people ask me if I STILL want to teach this grade. Every year I laugh and admit that I love the age group. We are a school located in a once flourishing and family minded neighborhood. In recent times the neighborhood has been consumed with rental homes, group homes and the occasional crime. We are at approximately 50% free and reduced lunch; a significantly higher percentage than just 5 years ago. The best part of working at this school and in my district is seeing the faces of former students, myself included, growing up but not away from the district. Countless district students have grown up to be teachers and come back to this district to help impact future generations.

My Project

As much as I love working with students in 6th grade, I do not love the fact that the "desk monsters" attack daily and take pencils, markers and pens. For most students in my classroom, the most daunting part of the day comes when they must rummage through their desk in search of a pencil so they can start the assignment that was to be completed two minutes ago.

Trying to teach organization is challenging at best.

With the proper tools and techniques, my students will hopefully be able to start the day prepared; giving them the confidence they need to make the best of the day.
