My students need each a storage cart, seat sacks and dry erase boards because our classroom has such limited storage. They do not even have cubby space to put their personal items.

My Students
My favorite quote is one that I heard from a very good friend of mine and business associate. He said, "Support those who support you." I would do anything possible to support my students. Our class has very limited storage. The kids do not even have cubbies. For storage and organization, we need these items!
My class is comprised of 12 diverse, creative, talented, and developmentally delayed students.
I have several with autism, down syndrome, intellectual deficits, learning delays, and even visual impairments. We are considered a high school aged room in an ungraded school setting.
We are a vocational program, called Cafe Marie. On a day to day basis we are responsible for providing coffee, bagels and other breakfast items along with hot lunches. We plan our menu all together. We also shop for all supplies and stock items. The students keep an ongoing inventory, stock items, take orders, work the cash register, deliver food, cook, and of course indulge in some of their delicious creations.
The children learn many different vocational skills they will be able to take out into the world and use to get and maintain a job of their own.
My Project
Because we are a Cafe and a classroom we have very limited space. The front half of our room is set up to be a functioning cafe at all times. Tables, coffee pots, snack items and the cash register.
The room is divided in half by a partition. The remaining space is the kitchen/classroom. As much as the kids and staff really enjoy being a part of the cafe, our personal space is incredibly limited. The students do not even have their own cubby. The seat pockets would so useful for the students to develop a sense of self in their room. They would have a space to store their own personal belongings, class work, books, pens and pencils.
The easel would be useful because it would help the rest of the class to be a more organized and neat. As of today, in order to teach a lesson with a small or large group, I need to make a basket of supplies and use paper with markers. The easel would help me organize the supplies needed for the students and to display important information for each lesson.
My project would make a difference because my students will have a better sense of comfort within their own classroom.
They will have a "home" for their personal belongings. The classroom as a whole would be neater, more organized, and more comfortable for all staff and students.
