My Project
Currently, my 8th grade students carry all materials to and from their classes. They have lockers, but they are not permitted to carry book bags during the school day. Often, students forget their binders for Science class, which results in missed class to retrieve the binder from their locker. Students carry multiple textbooks and binders for their classes, and without a book bag, the amount of materials they carry is cumbersome.
Having extra storage bins and cubbies in my classroom would allow students to carry fewer materials and improve organization since they binders will remain in my room.
The binders won't get lost or broken if they aren't taken from the classroom. In addition, students will be encouraged to complete missing work in my room since their binders will be kept in one central location. As a teacher, having access to their binders is easier if they are kept in my room.
These additional classroom organization materials will improve organization skills for my students because they will learn that important materials have a proper place. Their binders belong in my room and when they are needed, students come to my room to retrieve the binder. The emphasis is placed on keeping a neat binder in one location rather than a messy binder that is carried throughout the day to multiple places.
