This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Since I started teaching this functional skills class 10 years ago, I have had the same desk. It doesn't lock, and the kids are constantly trying to get into it to play with the objects in my desk. This includes my sharpies and scissors, which can be unsafe and messy if they get into the wrong hands. I also keep confidential documents in my desk, and I have another student who enjoys trying to get them out to use for coloring paper. It is a constant struggle to keep my students out of my desk. Having a locking desk would solve so many of my struggles. The headphones will be used for student Chromebooks. As of now, no one is using them, so it can get pretty overstimulating during computer time. The couch is the best part!
You can dissasemble the couch to create forts and other shapes,.
It will help with creativity, gross motor and encourage teamwork.
