it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A low-income area makes it difficult for students to come up with dreams of their own. Students with disabilities must learn to advocate for themselves. If that means using a pair of headphones to concentrate or using a pencil fidget to help them focus, then it is my job as the teacher to help provide the tool.
My students are amazing in my eyes.
They all have a disability, but they do not let it stop them from learning. My students are able to overcome many challenges because of their perseverance. In school they are able to escape the problems from outside. The population is made up of students who come from all walks of life. Many are newly arrived students from different countries.
The greatest feeling I get from teaching is watching a newly arrived student try their best because they understand how education is not offered everywhere in the world. I am fortunate enough to be able to work with students with disabilities. It is a wonderful feeling to help my students overcome obstacles they thought were impossible.
My Project
Having individual headphones in class will allow me to work with each student separately. My school is lucky enough to have Chromebooks. I want my students to be able to learn how to conduct independent research. I enjoy putting up videos for my students to watch and learn, especially with science.
Color pencils are not just for coloring because I use them for math. Students are able to write in color about the different concepts, and to see the steps they take to solve a math problem. Pencils and markers are always needed in my class. I enjoy being able to have students copy notes. I enjoy it because I am preparing them for college. The laminator will preserve their work and references.
Tools will help students remain focused.
Not all students can work with others around them. Putting on headphones to listen to a video can change a student’s ability to learn. The classroom is just a room, it is the culture the teacher creates that the students will remember. I want my students to remember my classroom as one of many tools, and one that pushes students to become independent.
