Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are autistic, intellectually disabled, speech impaired and/or other health impaired.

They enjoy coming to school every day.

Each one thrives on structure and routine. Their favorite time of day is "Sign-in & Calendar" when they use the Activboard, greet each other, perform calendar tasks, and "show off."

Our school is very supportive and inclusive. My students enjoy participating in activities such as reading buddies, grade level inclusion, and peer to peer mentoring. Wherever we go in school, other students call out "hello" to my students and call them by name. They ARE an important part of our school community.

My Project

I need help with supplies for my classroom that will ultimately benefit my students. We are receiving several new students and I do not have enough rest mats. The packing tape, putty, laminating pouches and timers ensure that my autistic students will have the visual supports they need posted around the room, at their work stations, and on their persons. The dry erase markers are used daily by my students to practice handwriting skills on laminated tracing pages made by me. These pages are individualized for each students ability and need. While these materials are not fancy or exciting, I believe they are essential for providing my students the learning environment they deserve.
