My Students

Teaching involves much more than academic curriculum. It is also my job each day to make sure each child in my classroom feels loved and a part of my school family. One difficult part of the teaching profession is to make sure that all of my students have the supplies they need to be successful.

The students in my classroom come from such diverse home lives.

Some students bring supplies on the first day of school, plus more that they just loved. On the other hand, I have students who come to my classroom with nothing, not even a pencil. I believe it is my job as an educator to make sure that everyone feels welcome and important. I always wonder how it would feel to walk into the classroom with nothing. Would I feel embarrassed? Would I feel loved? I believe that this project will help me ensure that each child in my classroom has what they need to be engaged in their learning.

My Project

The students in my class will use these materials in numerous ways. As a teacher, I try to give my students authentic learning activities that require them to think in new ways and work with a group to solve problems. Most of the supplies I need are not provided by the school and require me to buy them myself, which can be very costly. I want my students to be able to participate in fun activities, such as creating props to use in readers theater plays, adding foldable organizers to their science journals, and creating posters to show their research on special animal senses.

This project will make a difference in the lives of my students by giving them the supplies they need to be successful and engaged in their learning.

Without these supplies, it is very difficult for me to provide my students with all of the things they need to participate in learning activities that require them to think outside of the box.
