My students this year are a group of students who are extremely loving and eager to learn. I have students who are at multiple levels of reading that range from beginning readers all the way to advanced readers in my classroom. My project will give the students a fun, relaxing area to go and read with multiple genres of books to choose from!
My third graders given the opportunity can do anything they set their minds to.
My students are coming from very diverse cultures and are low-income students. However this doesn't mean they don't have the will to learn new things and surpass all expectations given to them. Teaching has always been something I want to do because I want to touch the lives of my students and give them every opportunity to shine possible! Since Hurricane Florence our school has faced some challenges from being displaced all the way to merging schools and back to our school. We are still awaiting some structural repairs to our school but for how we are teaching and making the best of our school year even if we did have 3 “first days” of school :)
My Project
My project will make a huge difference for my children in my classroom! This year my students are hands on visual learners, which these manipulatives will really help them see how exactly how to decompose things into smaller parts and take them back to the basics to help them with critical thinking with their math skill, and small guided math groups. Reading and comprehension are skills that my students will need to use rest of their lives.
Reading is something that the students need not only for their reading class but for all subjects and aspects of life because reading things is a lifelong skill.
Having different reading hands on materials will help the students tremendously. My students have been struggling with fluency based off of their test scores and assessments that were taken from the beginning of the year since we have been back from the hurricane. These materials for fluency and reading comprehension will help those students have different hands on things to read other than internet printable worksheets. This is where the whisper phones, fluency centers, and partner scripts will be beneficial for my classroom. The pocket chart will help hold and store these center activities for the students.
Additionally my students also lack from getting access to some technology. My students will also benefit from getting a class set of headphones because many of my students aren't able financially to get headphones that they can use with the technology in my classroom. We do a lot with technology and listening to different things online so having headphones will help them be able to complete assignments and be able to focus more without a lot of noise (multiple computers talking at the same time).
