Classroom Management for a New Teacher!

My students need these classroom management items such as the carpet spots, classroom timer, mobile whiteboard, and magnetic teaching aids so that they can be better engaged in their learning.

My Students

My second graders from Northern California are energetic, creative, and eager to learn! They come from diverse backgrounds and cultures, but create a strong community inside of the classroom. With a high population of English Language Learners, instilling a strong grasp of phonics is even more important, as this is the last grade level that will focus on it.

My students’ enthusiasm and thirst for learning to read is inspiring.

They are inquisitive, humorous, charismatic, and imaginative. These are characteristics that I only hope to enhance, as I try to foster a love for lifelong learning in them.

My Project

I just wrapped up my first year in teaching, and am looking for ways to improve my classroom management. The velcro sit spots will be such a help when my students are at the carpet by designating a spot for each child. My whiteboard is off to the side of the room, but with the mobile whiteboard I can model and demonstrate the concepts for my students while being right in front of them. The magnetic models and manipulatives will allow me to demonstrate and provide opportunities for my students to come to the board for hands-on learning.

My classroom will be becoming a 1:1 classroom next year, meaning I will have enough Chromebooks for every student in my class. To better implement this technology into my instruction, I plan on using the Fire tablet as a way to screencast and monitor student work while having the flexibility to circulate the classroom and answer questions.
