I remember my own excitement each week when my teacher would pass out our Weekly Reader magazines. Twenty years later, the same is true of my own students.
This year I will teach 18-25 third graders.
Having met many of the incoming third graders, I know that they are very curious. Some of them feed this curiosity through reading. Others haven't found their passion for reading yet. Regardless, they all appreciate a good story.
My Project
I am asking for classroom subscriptions to Time for Kids and Scholastic Magazine. These magazines feature engaging, relevant articles. We will use the magazines throughout the year across subjects. Students will be able to use the articles to independently practice the reading skills we learn. They will also use the articles as resources to support their own informational and argumentative writing. Additionally, many of the topics that will be covered in the magazines this year align with topics that we will be covering in science and social studies.
The impact of these subscriptions on my students will be tremendous.
With your help, every student will receive a copy of each magazine weekly. Your support of this project will consistently provide my students with engaging and timely nonfiction reading materials for the entire school year.
