Classroom Lost

Help me give my students the classroom they lost to the devastating Camp Fire. We will need everything to start over. My students need wobble cushions, wobble chairs, a carpet, and a teaching cart.

My Students

On November 8th of this year the Camp Fire took the town of Paradise. It took the homes of 21 of 24 of my students, it took their classroom, their routine, all of their belongings, and for many their peace of mind; but the fire could not take our community.

For the first few weeks after the fire we met in my home where I taught math and language arts at my kitchen table, on my couch, and in my front yard.

We are now holding school in a large basketball gym with the rest of our K-8 community. We have some supplies and are learning to cope with our new normal. Hope is provided in the kindness and generosity of those who see our passion to rebuild and become even stronger than before. Our school is looking for a temporary facility to house our school. We are looking forward to our own classroom but will need everything that was lost.

My second graders are amazing and remarkably resilient. They have been witness to a tragedy of historic proportions, events they can never forget. They are diligent learners who deserve the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential!

My Project

My classroom burned to the ground, there is nothing left and we are rebuilding with our most basic needs. We are moving to a temporary facility while our town is recovering from the ravaging Camp Fire. I will miss those four walls but I am happy to rebuild with a fresh start!

The most basic needs are for furniture (teaching cart and a carpet) and curriculum.

In addition, flexible seating (wobble chairs and wobble cushions) will be important as our temporary facility will be considerably smaller than our last school. I will need pieces that can be moved after we rebuild and can be used in different settings.
