My Students
My students are fun-loving, kind, curious, and enthusiastic. I teach third-graders that were Virtual Learners as second-grade students last year. These students were "looped" for their third-grade year. This means students spend another year with the same teachers and with each other. As a result, students have formed a close relationship that was difficult to establish in our Virtual Learning environment.
Our students enjoy opportunities to socialize.
We celebrate birthdays, Student of the Month, and other special milestones in class. Students get to know each other through discussions and games so they are more comfortable sharing ideas in class and more productive.
My Project
Literature circles are fun, in part because they are social experiences. I plan to position classroom literature learning in the hands of the students. Students will have discussion tools they can use as they work out their responses to the book. Scholars will meet in small groups of typically 4-6 readers in each. Once a week groups meet to discuss the book, complete the assigned reading, and share their experiences about what they have read.
Literature Circles lead to engagement as they promote student choice and voice.
Students hold the power to choose books of interest and demonstrate understanding through discussion.
