Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students have a great motivation to learn how to read. By the end of the year, I would love to see every student with a capability to read a story on their own. It is a challenge to encourage reading at home. "When educating the minds of the youth, we must not forget to educated their hearts."
My students are in a low socioeconomic area.
We are a title 1 school, filled with non-readers, below grade level. They are all receiving free lunches. Despite these obstacles I have many students that are still motivated to learn and want to better themselves.
My Project
When at the Listening Center, a group of students will follow along with the reader in the CD. This will give them the opportunity to read a story that they would not be able to read on their own. This center will give them the opportunity to focus on comprehension and understanding of a story.
A listening center will encourage students to read and visualize the story.
Listening to their reading emphasizes intonation in their reading and they will begin to try and read just as they do when they listen to the story. They are able to read along with a fun story that they would not have been successful reading on their own. After listening to the story and understanding it, they will be encouraged to try reading it on their own.
