My students need 29 leveled books for a classroom library for the school year. We have one book shelf with no books or rug. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Dream Team", that is what my students have decided to call themselves. It is my goal to help them be their best at all times in all aspects of their lives.
My students are from Philadelphia, PA and live in low socioeconomic part of the city.
Many of the students live with their grandmothers or aunts and uncles due to their parents' work schedules or being deceased. Consequently, many of the students do not have a strong home base to provide them with the necessary academic support. Some of my students have learning and/or behavior issues that is a direct result from their background. In addition, many of the students struggle since they do not have an adequate academic foundation. Nonetheless, my students are enthusiastic learners who are eager to learn new things, love to explore and want to be challenged. As such, I want them to have the tools necessary to have a rich and thriving school year.
My Project
With the resources requested, I plan to engage my students in various reading activities that will help them with their vocabulary acquisition, reading comprehension, writing and expend their imaginations. Some of those activities include literature circles, book reports on important African Americans, inventors reports, book clubs and reading challenge. Those activities will be carried out with students working independently as well as in small groups. The group activities will allow the students to learn from each other, work cooperatively and hold rich discussions about their readings. My students need a classroom library for the school year. We have one book shelf with no books or rug. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My project is important because it is at an early age that children develop a love for reading.
Without adequate tools and materials to engage the students in reading activities, there is a higher chance a child will struggle in other academic subjects. With a library, my fourth graders will develop a broader vocabulary, increase their literature interests and become overall better readers. With your help, the library will allow me to conduct many reading and writing activities for the students.
